Elena Pozdnyakova, deputy chief physician for pediatrics at the Lyubertsy regional hospital, told about the difference between flu and ARVI.
In a conversation with "Radio 1" on December 5, the specialist emphasized that influenza and ARVI are different diseases with different symptoms. Thus, acute respiratory viral infections usually begin with sore throat, runny nose, fever (below 38 degrees Celsius). The doctor pointed out that ARVI is easier, although general malaise may be added to the general coughing. Within seven days, as a rule, these symptoms pass.
Influenza, according to Pozdnyakova, begins with intoxication and high temperature (above 38 degrees Celsius). The disease is accompanied by pain in the back and muscles, on the second day there is a rough cough, pepper in the yawn comes on the third or fourth day.
Influenza more often than ARVI causes complications and can lead to bronchitis, maxillary sinusitis, otitis media and pneumonia.
To prevent contracting viruses and infections, the doctor advised to wear masks and use antiseptics, use vitamins D and C. She reminded that viruses are transmitted by airborne and contact routes. She urged to keep hands away from the face, eyes and foreign objects.
