State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov explained the popularity of the expression "brain rot" (brain rot), which the Oxford Dictionary chose as the word of the year.

Speaking to Radio 1 on Thursday, December 5, Milonov said that the chosen words reflect the entire society.

"There is a very famous clinic in Oxford that diagnoses brain pathology. One of the main leaders of the West, Joe Biden, is an absolutely pleasant object of study in this regard," the parliamentarian said.

According to him, looking at him makes one ponder the expression "brain decay," "degradation" and "dementia."

Milonov noted that the model of Western society is optimally combined with the chosen expression of the year.

The expression "brain decomposition" refers to the supposed deterioration of the mental or intellectual state of a person who excessively consumes low-quality content on the Internet.

On December 3, blogger Stas Vasiliev said that sometimes watching meaningless Internet content can be useful. According to him, one can benefit from such an activity, for example, to find idols in social networks to look up to, RT writes.

On December 1, it became known that the Oxford Dictionary named the term brain rot as the word of 2024. Brain rot speaks of one of the perceived dangers of virtual life and how a person uses free time, notes 360.ru. The first use of the term "brain rot" was recorded in 1854 in the book "Walden" by American writer Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862), reports IA Regnum.

At the same time, the Russian portal "Gramota.ru" named "wyb" as the word of 2024. The top three also included "skuf" and "arrival". The word "vayb" means an emotional state, a mood that arises when communicating with someone or in contact with something, notes the website kp.ru.

In 2023, the word of the year, according to the Oxford Dictionary, was rizz, which means a shortened form of the word "charisma". The word rizz also denotes "the ability to easily attract a romantic or sexual partner", writes NSN.
