The conflict in Ukraine is now at the stage of completion, so it is likely that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky 's team (his term of office expired on May 20) has received certain instructions. This was stated by State Duma deputy Alexei Chepa on December 5, commenting on a meeting between the head of Zelensky's office, Andrei Yermak, and the team of US President-elect Donald Trump.

"We insist on the position voiced by [Russian President] Vladimir Vladimirovich[Putin], and our terms will unambiguously protect the interests and security of our country," the parliamentarian said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

He suggested that the Ukrainian leader's team might have received "certain instructions" from the US side.

As Chepa noted, Ukraine was made to understand that the issue of NATO membership would not be decided in its favor. In addition, the USA demonstrated its desire to enter negotiations with the Russian Federation sooner.

According to the MP, the negotiations will start in the near future. He emphasized that for this purpose it is necessary to develop clear positions.

Earlier in the day, Oleksiy Chepa said that reports about Ukraine's possible readiness to negotiate with Russia could be a positive signal. Meanwhile, Russia will in any case stand on its key positions in future agreements.

The day before, the Bloomberg news agency reported that NATO wants to get Kiev to start ceasefire talks. According to a senior NATO diplomat quoted by the publication, one of the possible options for a ceasefire is the creation of a demilitarized zone where any military action would be prohibited. The agency's sources emphasized that NATO understands that the negotiation process should start in the near future, kp.ru website said. At the same time, the issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO is not on the agenda in the short term, RT wrote.

On the same day, Reuters wrote that US President-elect Donald Trump's team has three plans to settle the Ukrainian conflict. According to the source, they were put forward by future special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg, former director of national intelligence Richard Grenell and future US Vice President JD Vance, 360.ru reported.

On November 29, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term of office expired on May 20, said in an interview with British television channel Sky News that he might agree to a ceasefire and giving up some territories in exchange for Ukraine's NATO membership.

Former US Congressman Matt Gaetz, a Republican member of the US Congress from Florida, said after Zelensky's statement on 29 November that Ukraine's admission to NATO would be a terrible idea.
