The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) lost more than 38,000 servicemen during the fighting in the Kursk direction, the Russian Defense Ministry said on December 5.
"In total, the enemy lost more than 38,235 servicemen, 232 tanks, 168 infantry fighting vehicles, 123 armored personnel carriers, 1,228 armored fighting vehicles, 1,087 vehicles, 308 artillery pieces during the fighting in the Kursk direction," the report said.
In particular, over the last day the losses of Ukrainian militants in this direction amounted to more than 300 people. At the same time three tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and armored fighting vehicles, five vehicles, electronic warfare station and five mortars of the AFU were destroyed each.
Units of the Russian troops' grouping "North" defeated formations of 11 Ukrainian brigades. The enemy's manpower and equipment were also hit by air strikes and artillery fire.
Earlier in the day, the Defense Ministry showed how Molniya-2 drones of the Northern Group of Forces hit military facilities, armored and automotive equipment of the AFU in the border area of Kursk Region. According to the agency, Russian servicemen use various combat UAVs on a daily basis in the course of destroying small mobile groups of the enemy - from ordinary FPV drones to airplane-type kamikazes.
The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The operation to destroy the militants continues.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
