Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean has demanded that parliament declare a state of emergency in the energy sector. This was reported by Ziarul de Gardă on December 5.

The state of emergency will be in force since December 16 and will remain in force "until the problematic situation is overcome".

In addition, he demanded the resignation of the country's Energy Minister Victor Parlicov, as well as the head of the state-owned company Energocom, Victor Bynzar, and a member of the supervisory board of Moldovagaz, Serghei Tofilat.

"These persons either blocked or took actions not in time to purchase gas at the minimum price. Instead of looking for guilty persons, they should have provided natural gas in time," he specified.

Recean said that he will temporarily take over the management of the Energy Ministry and ordered to appoint a new staff of Moldovagaz.

Earlier, on November 26, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebryan said that a possible cessation of gas supplies to Transnistria by Russia after stopping the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine would turn into a humanitarian catastrophe. According to him, such a situation should be avoided by any state.

Before that, on November 22, the Moldovan energy minister said that Transnistria might face energy difficulties from January 1 if Russia's Gazprom stops gas supplies. The energy minister said that the country needs help from foreign partners, but neither Brussels nor Washington are among them, which will not finance the Transnistrian region.

On November 20, former president and leader of the opposition Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said that the strategic partnership between Moldova and Russia should be resumed and sanctions should be lifted. Prior to that, on November 9, Parlikov said that Chisinau was asking Russian energy company Gazprom to clarify gas supplies without waiting until December 31, when the five-year contract on transit through Ukraine expires.
