There are no areas in which the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) can be useful in terms of its tasks. This statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on December 5 during his address to the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers.

"There is not a single sphere left where the OSCE could play even a marginally useful role in finding answers to direct questions within its terms of reference," he said.

According to Lavrov, the organization could become a gathering point for the interests of members of the European space, but "no one in this room would ever think of using the OSCE for that purpose."

Lavrov is leading the Russian delegation to the OSCE Ministerial Council in Malta.

Lavrov arrived in Malta to attend the OSCE Ministerial Council earlier in the day. He will meet with the foreign ministers of several countries on the platform. At the same time, the Russian side intends to draw particular attention to the failure to issue visas to representatives of Moscow.
