Law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan since the beginning of this year disrupted the preparation of four terrorist attacks. This was reported to President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev on December 5 by the head of the National Security Committee Ermek Sagimbayev.

"The national security bodies disrupted the preparation of four terrorist attacks. 84 people have been convicted for involvement in terrorism and extremism, 44 persons have been detained. From Syria and Turkey extradited six Kazakhs who were wanted on suspicion of committing crimes of terrorist nature, two of them were convicted. Attempts to enter Kazakhstan by 824 foreigners involved in terrorism and extremism were stopped," the report said, excerpts from which were quoted by the Kazakhstani leader's press service in its Telegram channel.

According to the KNB, 19 organised criminal groups were neutralized during this period, and more than 500 firearms and more than 15,000 rounds of ammunition were seized from illegal circulation.

Earlier, November 28, Tokayev called membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization a guarantee of security. At the bloc's summit in Astana, he noted that in its role as CSTO chairman, Kazakhstan has focused its efforts on combating threats of terrorism, crime and drug trafficking, among other things.

Before that, in May, Kazakhstan's KNB reported two terrorist attacks prevented in the country. In one of the cases, the intelligence services of the republic worked together with partners from other countries. In July it became known that three Kazakh citizens were convicted for propaganda of terrorist ideas.
