"Dom.RF" put the Kresty pre-trial detention center in St. Petersburg up for auction


State company "Dom.RF" has put up for auction the historical complex of the detention center "Kresty" in St. Petersburg. This was reported by the press service of the state company on Thursday, December 5.
"The main task of "Dom.RF" in the realization of such objects is to give them a second life, to carry out adaptation for modern use through the search for bona fide and reliable investors", - said the director for the realization of federal property of the company Nikolai Sarokvasha.
The site has a total area of 3.9 hectares, and 41.2 thousand square meters is the total area of buildings and structures, some of which is a cultural heritage site.
The auction will be held on February 21, 2025, the initial price of the lot is 1.052 billion rubles.
"This place requires a careful approach: the new owner must not only preserve the historical memory, but also find a function that will give it a new impetus for development. For this purpose it is necessary to conduct a state historical and cultural expertise, to determine the subject of protection and the framework of permissible changes," said Anton Ivanov, chairman of the St. Petersburg city branch of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture.
The Kresty pre-trial detention center, built in 1884-1892, housed up to 12,000 prisoners and was also known as a place of imprisonment for many Soviet poets. It was closed in 2017 after prisoners were transferred to Kresty-2. The territory was used as a movie set for many films and TV series.
