Sobyanin congratulated WWII veteran Ivan Slukhai on his 100th birthday


Mayor of the capital Sergey Sobyanin congratulated Ivan Andreyevich Slukhai, a front-line soldier and honorary citizen of Moscow, on his 100th birthday. The mayor thanked the veteran for his loyalty and love for the Motherland, courage and bravery, and also wished him health and vigor. About this he wrote in his official Telegram-channel.
"Ivan Andreevich is a man of a complex but amazing fate. In 1942 he enlisted as a volunteer in the people's militia. When forcing the Dnieper, he received multiple shrapnel wounds, but left the battlefield only after the arrival of reinforcements", - said Sobyanin.
Another feat of Slukhai - delivery of a letter demanding surrender to the commander of Hitler's troops. As a result, hundreds of German soldiers and officers surrendered.
After the war, the veteran served in the Armed Forces of the USSR for another 42 years, and then engaged in social activities and education of young people. In 1996 he headed the Moscow Committee of War Veterans. Together with the Academy of Historical Sciences and with the participation of students of Moscow universities he collects and publishes memories of the front-line soldiers - 23 volumes of memoirs "From Soldier to General" have already been published.
Slukhai was awarded numerous orders and medals for his impeccable service to the Motherland.
