The sentence in a case of illegal gold trafficking was passed in Magadan

The court in Magadan ruled on the case of illegal trafficking of 7.5 kg of gold, the defendants in which were two local residents, including the director of a gold mining company. This was reported by the city prosecutor's office on Thursday, December 5.

It is established that in September 2020, the director of the gold mining company purchased and melted down about 5 kg of precious metal, poured the resulting alloy into car parts and transported to Moscow by airplane. At the capital's Sheremetyevo airport, gold worth over 19.6 million rubles was discovered and seized.

Another year later, the man attempted to establish an illegal circulation of gold on the territory of Moscow under the guise of artisanal jewelry with a fake assay mark. He tried to export gold twice, but in November 2021 in the same Sheremetyevo in one of the passengers police officers seized a gold chain and bracelet with a total weight of almost 0.6 kg, and a month later in hand luggage in the airport terminal in Magadan found jewelry for more than 2 kg. In the latter case, a bribe in the amount of 200 thousand rubles was handed over to a police officer, IA MagadanMedia specifies.

The court found the men guilty of illegal trafficking of precious metals on a large scale by prior conspiracy (part 5 of article 191 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), forgery of the state assay mark (part 1 of article 181 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and bribery (paragraph "a, b" part 4 of article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). One of them was also found guilty of illegal trafficking of precious metals on a large scale (part 4 of article 191 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The organizer was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment, a fine of 5 million rubles and deprivation of the right to engage in activities in the field of subsoil use for the next three years. The accomplice received seven and a half years and a fine of 2 million rubles, during the next four years he also has no right to engage in activities in the field of subsoil use. Both will serve their sentences in a strict regime colony.

In October, members of an interregional criminal group that illegally mined gold were detained in the Urals. During the searches, nuggets and ingots worth a total of 300 million roubles were found.
