Scientists of the Pacific Institute of Geography of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences have found out that the main factors of air pollution in Primorsky Krai are dust storms, volcanoes and forest fires. This was reported to PrimaMedia IA by the press service of the TIG FEB RAS.

The study was conducted with the help of an automatic environmental monitoring system. The results showed that dust storms from Mongolia and China, as well as forest fires are the main threat to Primorye's ecology.

In addition, volcanoes erupting in Kamchatka were recognized as an unfavorable factor.

At the same time, the monitoring system failed to track the exceeding of maximum permissible concentrations that threaten human health directly.

To date, automatic environmental monitoring stations in Primorye have been deployed at the Smychka research and expedition base of the TIG FEB RAS in the village of Rudnaya Pristan and on the territory of the Kedrovaya Pad Biosphere Reserve. Installation of equipment in the south of the region is planned for the near future.

On December 2, it was reported that negotiations on the issue of plastic pollution of the planet have reached an impasse. At a meeting in Busan, South Korea, the UN intergovernmental committee failed to reach a unified position. More than 100 states insisted on a radical reduction in production.
