The team of US President-elect Donald Trump has shown no interest in the idea of Ukraine joining NATO during talks with the Ukrainian side, The Wall Street Journal reported on 4 December. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal on December 4.

"But Trump's team showed little interest in offering Ukraine membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization," - stated in the publication of the edition.

At the same time, Keith Kellogg, whom the elected American leader intends to appoint special envoy for Ukraine, supported the supply of weapons to Kiev. According to him, in this way Trump will be able to allegedly influence Russia during negotiations on the settlement of the conflict.

It is also reported that the head of the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (whose term expired on May 20) Andriy Yermak is in Washington to "establish relations with Trump's aides,"Gazeta.Ruadded.

Earlier, on December 4, Hungarian Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Minister Peter Szijjarto said that at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers it became clear that there was no consensus on the issue of inviting Ukraine to the alliance. According to him, some participants in the meeting wanted to come to an agreement on inviting Ukraine to NATO, which, according to Szijjártó, is tantamount to the start of World War III.

On December 2, Ansa news agency reported that NATO foreign ministers would not reach an agreement on inviting Ukraine to the alliance at the meeting. On 3 December, Reuters quoted a senior diplomat of the alliance as saying that it would take many months to reach a consensus on this issue.

On November 29, Zelensky said in an interview with the British TV channel Sky News that he might agree to a cease-fire and giving up some territories in exchange for Ukraine's membership in NATO. In his turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov said that Ukraine's NATO membership was unacceptable for Russia because it was a threatening development.

Ukraine applied to join NATO on an accelerated basis on September 30, 2022. At the time, Zelenskyy said that in fact the country was already in the alliance and met its standards.
