US President-elect Donald Trump's candidate for Pentagon leader Pete Hegseth has promised to stop drinking alcohol if he is appointed to the post. This was reported on December 4 by the publication The Hill.

The material notes that Hegseth's nomination for the post of Secretary of Defense is in danger of being derailed because of strong opposition from a number of Republican senators who express serious concerns about his nomination. They believe it negatively affects Trump's reputation and makes it difficult for Republicans in the Senate.

"I told him what I told everyone else: Hegseth should have a chance to defend himself against charges of sexual and financial misconduct and excessive alcohol consumption," commented Senator Lindsey Graham (listed on the Russian list of terrorists and extremists).

Graham defends Hegseth from anonymous accusations that spoil his reputation, demanding public confirmation of the allegations.

Earlier, on December 2, it was reported that Pete Hegseth was previously fired from two non-profit organizations (NPO) to protect the interests of veterans for being at work in a state of alcohol intoxication, obscene appearance and embezzlement of company funds for personal use. It was noted that the lawyer of the candidate for the post of head of the Pentagon refused to comment to the magazine and called the former colleagues of his client petty and envious.

Before that, on November 13, Trump nominated Hegseth to head the Secretary of Defense. He also specified that his nominee sincerely believes that "America comes first." Trump is confident that with the new head of the Pentagon, the US Army will become great again.

On the same day, it was reported that people in Washington expressed surprise at Trump's nomination of Hegseth for the post.
