130 children who have confirmed relatives in Russia are ready to return to Russia from Syria. This was announced on December 5 by Maria Lvova-Belova, Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights, on the margins of the district forum on the prevention of child abandonment in Kemerovo.

"We have ready documents for 130 children about whom we know for sure that they are there. There are more than a thousand requests from relatives who are looking for their children. But each visit involves certain risks for my team," the ombudsman said.

She added that whenever her staff is allowed into the camps, they do DNA tests on the children, the results of which confirm the kinship with Russians and the citizenship of the children. After that, the paperwork procedure begins.

Earlier, on November 22, 26 children - 14 boys and 12 girls, ranging from five to 12 years old - returned to Russia from a refugee camp in northeastern Syria with the help of Lvova-Belova. The returnees are undergoing medical examinations in a Moscow clinic and rehabilitation in the capital's resource center for family and childhood support. There they are being assisted by teachers and psychologists.

Before that, on July 7, with the assistance of the Children's Ombudsman, a group of 20 Russian children who were in a refugee camp in northeastern Syria were returned home.

On November 28, the Syrian Defense Ministry reported that terrorist groups launched a major attack in Aleppo and Idlib, and the Syrian Army began to repel it, inflicting serious damage to the militants' equipment and manpower. The Syrian armed forces are supported by the Russian Air and Space Forces (VKS). On December 4, it was reported that since the beginning of the week the army of the Arab Republic has destroyed more than 1.6 thousand militants of terrorist groups.
