South Korean police have launched an investigation against the country's President Yun Seok-yol on suspicion of rebellion over the decision to impose martial law. This was reported by France24 TV channel on Thursday, December 5, citing police statements.

"South Korean police announced Thursday that they have launched an investigation into the president for 'rebellion' - a crime that goes beyond presidential immunity," the material reported.

It is noted that the investigation began after complaints from opposition politicians about the president's actions.

President of the Republic of Korea Yun Seok-yol declared martial law in the country on December 3. The reason for such a step he called the threat of paralysis of power, arising from attempts to conduct impeachment proceedings. Military equipment was brought to the streets of Seoul, the country's capital.

Later that day, the South Korean government voted to lift martial law in the country. Yun Seok-yol then canceled an emergency gathering of military personnel and sent those who had arrived for the draft back.

The opposition Republic Party, in turn, demanded the president's resignation and said it intended to charge Yun Seok-yeol with treason. At the same time, all heads and senior secretaries of the presidential administration of South Korea resigned. In addition, the labor unions of the republic announced a general strike.

In addition, on December 4, opposition parties said they would launch a procedure to impeach the president. The vote may take place in Parliament on December 6-7. On the same day, South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun submitted his resignation.
