A 240-millimeter self-propelled mortar 2S4 "Tulpan" of the Southern group of troops has destroyed a stronghold and fortified positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Chasovyar direction of the special military operation (SMO) zone. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on December 5.

According to the ministry, the servicemen after detecting the enemy moved to a firing position, where they aimed and hit the target with a mine. While the gun is being reloaded, the commander receives a correction for the next shot. A Tulip mortar crew can stay in a firing position for only a few minutes.

"We work on buried targets, which are "highly concretized" targets, as well as high-rise buildings where the Nazis are hiding. We have shells - we work as "Malyshami" - 137 kg "Malysh" weighs 137 kg, we also have active-jet mines up to 20 km work, and we work with mines correctable "Daredevil". Adjustable mine "Smelchak" is a high-precision weapon and hits targets at a distance of up to 0.8 meters from the target illumination", - said the commander of the self-propelled mortar "Tulpan".

It is noted that self-propelled mortar 2S4 "Tulpan" is the only mortar of such caliber in the world and has no analogues. In this case, these self-propelled mortars are used to destroy and destroy strong field-type structures, fortified buildings adapted by the enemy to hide manpower and equipment, fortifications, command posts, artillery and missile batteries and other enemy armored combat vehicles, as well as the destruction of objects that due to high security can not be destroyed by artillery guns of smaller caliber.

Earlier, on December 3, the Russian Defense Ministry showed the combat work of the 240-millimeter self-propelled mortar "Tulpan" of the group of troops "Vostok", which stopped the counterattack of the AFU in the special operation zone. The Ukrainian military counted on the effect of surprise, but the fire of the "Tulpan" eliminated it, and the AFU had to retreat. Mortar fighters said that they hit large mines on firing points, platoon strongholds and well concreted dugouts of the enemy.

Prior to that, on November 20, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that a mortar crew of paratroopers of the Dnipro group of troops destroyed an AFU observation post on the right bank of the Dnieper River in the Zaporizhzhya region near Energodar.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
