The treaty on strategic partnership between Russia and the DPRK has entered into force. This was reported on December 5 by the Korean Central Telegraphic Agency (KCTAK).

It is noted that on December 4 in Moscow, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko and his counterpart from the DPRK Kim Jong-gyu signed a protocol of exchange of instruments of ratification. In accordance with the text of the treaty, it enters into force from that moment. Thus, the Treaty on Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the DPRK of February 9, 2000 has become invalid.

As the agency pointed out, Pyongyang's position is that the relations between the two countries based on the new treaty will guarantee international strategic stability and accelerate the formation of a fair multipolar world order.

"The strong Korea-Russia relations based on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty, being a strong security mechanism that promotes the welfare of the peoples of the two countries, alleviates the situation in the region and guarantees international strategic stability, will serve as a powerful driving force to accelerate the formation of an independent and just multipolar world order where domination, subordination and hegemony do not exist," the publication said.

Earlier, on November 11, the DPRK ratified the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership with the Russian Federation. The decree was signed on November 11.

Before that, on November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law on ratification of the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and the DPRK. It was noted that the new treaty will come into force from the date of exchange of instruments of ratification between Russia and the DPRK and will be indefinite. The document provides for mutual assistance in case of aggression against one of the participants.

Russia and the DPRK are actively and very successfully developing diplomatic relations. Thus, on October 29, DPRK Foreign Minister Choi Seong-hee paid an official visit to Moscow within the framework of the strategic dialog, the agreement on the activation of which was reached by the leaders of Russia and the DPRK Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un during the state visit of the Russian president to Pyongyang. In June, Putin emphasized that cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow is based on the principles of equal rights and mutual respect for the interests of the two states.
