The Georgian Interior Ministry has detained six people on charges of organizing and participating in violent mass riots after conducting searches in the offices of opposition parties. This was reported by the press service of the country's Interior Ministry on Wednesday, December 4.
"Investigation of the facts of violence is conducted in accordance with Articles 225 and 239 of the Criminal Code of Georgia", - stated in the message of the Department in Facebook (belongs to the organization Meta, recognized in the Russian Federation extremist).
It is noted that the police are conducting searches in the offices of several political parties ("Droa" and "Akhali") and public organizations, and detained six people on charges of organizing and participating in group violence.
During the searches, protective equipment (helmets, gas masks), pyrotechnics, electronic devices and various liquids were seized, which are now being examined.
Protests have been going on for several days in Georgia over the suspension of European integration talks and the opposition's disagreement with the results of the parliamentary elections. Kobakhidze made a statement the day before that another attempt to organize a revolution in the country based on the scenario of the Ukrainian Maidan had failed.
Earlier, on December 2, Georgian security forces were forced to use tear gas to disperse demonstrators in the center of Tbilisi. On November 30, protesters tried to set fire to the Georgian parliament building and damaged dozens of offices.
Amid these events, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili refused to step down when her term expires at the end of December. In response, Kobakhidze warned that she would be required by law to leave office.
