South Korea's parliament has tabled a motion to impeach the president

South Korea's parliament has tabled a motion to impeach the country's President Yun Seok-yeol. This was reported by Reuters on December 4.
"South Korea's parliament on Thursday formally tabled a motion to impeach President Yun Seok-yol over a failed attempt to impose martial law," the publication said.
The vote should be held within 24-72 hours.
It is specified that the proposal was signed by 191 lawmakers from six opposition parties. The Power of the People party abstained from signing.
The impeachment draft will be submitted to the plenary session on Thursday, December 5. The vote is scheduled to take place on Dec. 6-7.
The day before, Yoon Seok-yeol declared martial law. He cited the threat of power paralysis due to attempts to conduct impeachment proceedings as the reason. Later the same day, the South Korean government voted in favor of lifting martial law. It was specified that the decision was made unanimously by all 190 members of the national assembly. South Korea's president canceled the emergency gathering of military personnel and sent those who arrived for the draft back.
Commander of the emergency regime, Army Chief of Staff Park Ahn-soo noted that the activities of parliament, political parties and associations in South Korea are banned until martial law is lifted. Eyewitnesses shared that protesters were gathering outside the national assembly building in Seoul. Later, footage of military equipment in the capital appeared.
The opposition Republic Party in turn demanded the resignation of the president and said it intended to charge Yoon Seok-yeol with treason. At the same time, all heads and senior secretaries of the South Korean presidential administration resigned. The republic's Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun also submitted his resignation. In addition, the republic's labor unions announced a general strike.
