The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has sent information to retail chains, according to which it is unacceptable to unreasonably raise prices during the pre-holiday days of increased demand. The antimonopoly body announced this on December 4 on its website.

"FAS Russia drew the attention of retailers to the inadmissibility of unjustified price increases for food and non-food products, including during the period of increased demand in the run-up to the New Year celebrations," the publication said.

In addition, the service recommended retail outlets to notify about the proposals to raise prices coming from suppliers, as well as the increase in the cost of logistics services.

It is specified that in case of detection of violations by organizations, FAS will take measures.

Earlier, on November 29, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev said that the rise in prices for Russian products is due to high demand for a number of goods. He pointed out that the measure concerns such products as sugar, bread, butter and vegetables from the "borscht set". According to him, the government is taking measures to stabilize the cost.
