On December 4, Roman Okhotenko, Director of the Information Policy Department of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, spoke at the Izvestia Press Center about the rules of household safety and the importance of installing a fire detector.

He cited statistics, according to which in 2024, 213 children did not die just because of the fire detector.

"According to official statistics, we look that since the beginning of the year 213 children did not die thanks to the fire detector, and more than 370 adults," - said Okhotenko.

Okhotenko shared with journalists that the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, Avito and ANO Dialogue Regions have developed a special online game with the help of which Russians can learn safety rules at home and on the Internet. The aim of the project is to increase media literacy and inform citizens about the correct actions during domestic emergencies.

According to him, an autonomous fire sensor will detect smoke and give a loud alarm. Firefighters arriving at the scene find the detector burnt and melted, which continues to signal all the way to the end.

This is important because while sleeping, a person does not smell odors and may not notice the appearance of smoke. Just 5-7 breaths of carbon monoxide can cause unconsciousness, which in turn can be fatal.

In September, Vitaly Savchenko, vice-rector for digital development and information technologies at the State University of Education, told Izvestia about fire-dangerous ways of charging gadgets. Charging gadgets under a pillow is fraught with fire, as air circulation is impaired, which leads to overheating of the device.
