About 1.5 mln tons of sugar beet harvested in Stavropol Territory

Harvesting of sugar beet has been completed in five districts of the Stavropol Territory. Agrarians have harvested 1.5 million tons of root crops, with a yield of more than 409 c/ha, the press service of the governor and the regional government reported on Wednesday, December 4.

The leader in harvesting was Novoalexandrovsky District, whose harvest amounted to 620 thousand tons. Kochubeyevsky District is next, where 397 thousand tons of product was harvested.

As StavropolMedia IA notes, the regional government called sugar beet a strategic crop that ensures food security of Russia. The region has already sown 793 hectares of agricultural areas with seeds of root crops.

Earlier "Izvestia" wrote that Russia may impose a ban on the import of sunflower seeds and corn from unfriendly countries. The current quota for imports turned out to be unselected, besides, domestic seeds of these crops showed decent yield results.
