Putin called the development of new logistics routes in the world inevitable

The development of new logistics routes is an inevitable issue. This statement was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the plenary session of the VTB Forum "Russia Calling!", commenting on the development of the North-South logistics corridor.
"As for the development of new logistics routes. You know, this is an inevitable process <...> We simply have to look for new routes. We do it and find <...> This process is inevitable due to the growth of trade turnover in the world and the limitations of those routes that take place, the limited capacity and the growth of geopolitical risks," the president pointed out.
The Russian leader noted that this corridor is already in operation and the volume of transportation through it is constantly increasing. He also pointed to the growing interest in the Northern Sea Route.
"Due to the fact that simply the volume of trade turnover is increasing, there is a growing interest in such routes as the Northern Sea Route - it is along, mainly, the Russian coast in the Arctic. And by times already exceeded the volume of transportation since Soviet times. And it will grow further," he concluded.
Earlier, on November 25, Putin appointed Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev as his special representative for the development of the North-South transport corridor. Prior to that, on November 19, at the forum "Transport of Russia" it was reported that the multimodal route North - South, leading to Iran, will be expanded at the expense of the eastern arm, which will pass through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan, and further - to the ports of Pakistan and India.
In early September, Dmitry Birichevsky, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Economic Cooperation Department, told Izvestia that activity in the North-South corridor has increased. He added that other countries could join the project if they find it profitable.
