In Georgia, police detained Gvaramia, leader of the opposition Akhali party


Georgian police have detained Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the opposition Akhali party, Rustavi 2 TV channel reported on December 4.
According to him, the politician tried to enter the party office during the ongoing searches and was detained because of a conflict with law enforcers.
The footage published by the TV channel shows police officers putting Gvaramia in a car. At the moment he was taken to the pre-trial detention center. At the same time, searches in the party premises were continued.
Protests have been going on in Georgia for several days due to the suspension of negotiations on European integration and the opposition's disagreement with the results of the parliamentary elections. The day before, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze made a statement that another attempt to organize a revolution in the country based on the scenario of the Ukrainian Maidan had failed.
Earlier, on December 2, Georgian security forces were forced to use tear gas to disperse demonstrators in the center of Tbilisi. On November 30, protesters tried to set fire to the Georgian parliament building and damaged dozens of offices.
Amid these events, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili refused to step down when her term expires at the end of December. In response, Kobakhidze warned that she would be required by law to leave office.
