U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told a news conference in Brussels on Dec. 4 that a NATO liaison office in Jordan is planned to open in 2025.

"NATO will open its liaison office in Jordan next year, the first in the region," the secretary of state said.

The day before in Brussels, North Atlantic Alliance Secretary General Mark Rutte said the possibility of opening a liaison office in the Jordanian capital.

"I am pleased that we are opening a liaison office in Amman in the near future," Rutte said.

Earlier, on Nov. 25, Greek media reported on Cyprus' plans to join NATO. Plans for the Republic of Cyprus to join NATO were discussed at a meeting of the President of the island state Nicos Christodoulidis with U.S. President Joe Biden. It is noted that Christodoulidis also at the summit of the European Political Community in Budapest presented Rutte a plan for the gradual accession of the state to NATO.
