- Interior Ministry has warned Russians about a new "spoofing" cyberattack scheme

Fraudsters have started using a new scheme of cyberattacks called "spoofing". This was reported by the Russian Interior Ministry on December 4.
"Spoofing is a cyberattack in which an attacker masquerades as another person/company to gain your trust," the agency's Telegram channel said.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, the goals of hacking are access to mobile devices, the spread of virus programs, as well as the theft of money and personal information.
To obtain the necessary data, fraudsters can use phone number substitution, create fake sites that visually resemble known resources, as well as disguise viruses as ordinary documents.
To protect yourself, the agency recommended checking links, names of senders of messages and sites. It is also necessary to open attached files with caution and not to distribute your personal data on the Internet.
Earlier, on November 24, it became known that since 2022 Russia has secured the status of the most hacker-attacked country in the world. The main change in the landscape of cyber threats over the past three years has been an avalanche of attacks on domestic companies and the public sector by pro-Ukrainian groups. Attackers most often target industrial enterprises, telecoms, construction companies and the IT sector.
On November 19, the head of Rostelecom, Mikhail Oseevsky, said at the inter-industry conference "Customer Security Comes First" that the personal data of every Russian is already in the Internet. In his opinion, the darknet contains information about citizens collected by Ukrainian hackers or special services, which creates an opportunity for "various kinds of ways of penetrating into life".
