Putin points to record low unemployment in Russia against the background of Western countries

Russia has a record low level of unemployment against the background of many Western countries. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 4, speaking at the plenary session of the VTB forum "Russia Calling!".

The head of state added that the problem of youth unemployment in the country has ceased to exist.

"Youth unemployment is a problem in very many countries of the world. We also have such a problem. Or, more precisely, it already existed. Here the unemployment rate is below 9%, although at certain times and quite recently it was off the charts at 20-25% in some regions of the country. In general, Russia has a record low unemployment rate - only 2.3%," the President pointed out.

Putin pointed out that against the background of most of the world's leading economies and developing countries, this figure is minimal.

"For example, in many European countries it is 7% and higher, and in our country, I repeat, a little more than 2%. So, for comparison, so as not to be unsubstantiated: in Italy - 7.6%, in France - 7.3%, in Canada less - 5.4%, in Greece - 11%, in Brazil - 8%, in Sweden - 7.6%," Putin specified.

Earlier, on December 2, Putin said at a meeting with young scientists in Novo-Ogaryovo that despite the low unemployment rate, there is a problem of lack of workers in the country. He called its solution the introduction of new technologies, including in the field of artificial intelligence.

Back in late October, the head of state pointed out that the unemployment rate in Russia is falling lower and lower, and every quarter the historical minimum for this indicator is updated. He attributed this to the government policy of recent years along with the efforts of the business community and labor unions. This level is also minimal in comparison with other leading countries of the world, the head of state pointed out.
