- In six regions of the Far East there is a new banknote with the nominal value of Br5 thousand

A new bill with a face value of Br5 thousand has appeared in six regions of the Far East. This was reported in the Far Eastern Main Department of the Central Bank (CB) of Russia on December 4.
"Modernized five-thousand bills of the 2023 sample have already been put into circulation in Primorye, Khabarovsk Krai, Jewish Autonomous Region, Yakutia, Amur and Sakhalin regions," the regulator told RIA Novosti.
Buryatia and Zabaikalye were not included in the list, as they belong to the Siberian main department of the Central Bank of Russia.
Oleg Karepov, head of the cash circulation department of the CBR's Far Eastern Main Directorate, said at the banknote presentation that banks and ATMs are ready to accept the new banknotes. According to him, the new and old banknotes will be used simultaneously.
Earlier, November 28, the Central Bank provided variants of images for Br1 thousand banknote. Head of the Central Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina said that the new variant would be chosen by popular vote.
The Central Bank presented an updated banknote of Br1 thousand in October 2023, but very quickly withdrew it, as dissatisfaction was caused by the design of the bill. On the reverse side was depicted the palace church in the Kazan Kremlin, which in Soviet times began to be used not for religious purposes and the cross was removed from it. Next to it is the tower of Syuyumbike in the Kazan Kremlin, which is crowned by a crescent moon.
