Direct air service between Russia and Pakistan may open in the near future

Russia and Pakistan may establish direct air service in the near future. Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev told reporters on Wednesday, December 4.

"We have considered the issue of air communications and in the near future we want to establish flights to Islamabad," TASS quoted the minister as saying after a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Pakistan.

Deputy head of the ministry Sergei Zverev noted that Moscow and Islamabad are holding consultations and intend to increase the number and geography of air flights.

On the eve of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation reported that Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit met with the co-chairman of the Russian-Pakistani intergovernmental commission, Minister of Energy of Pakistan Sardar Leghari. At the meeting, the Russian side confirmed interest in opening direct air service between the countries.
