The Sredne-Nevsky shipbuilding plant in St. Petersburg is the leader in the field of composite shipbuilding in Russia. This was stated on Wednesday, December 4, by Nikolay Patrushev, the Assistant to the President of Russia, the Chairman of the Maritime Board.

"The plant is the leader of composite shipbuilding in Russia. It is the only enterprise in the country that has mastered the construction of ships and vessels from different types of materials: composite materials, shipbuilding, low-magnetic steel, aluminum-magnesium alloys," he said at the meeting within the framework of his visit to the enterprise.

Patrushev urged the plant to develop the existing competences in this sphere and noted the importance of passenger liners and catamarans produced by the enterprise.

During the meeting, the presidential aide asked him to report on the progress of the plant's fulfillment of the state defense order for the Russian Navy, other contracts, as well as developments within the framework of subsidies.

In addition, the head of the Naval Collegium toured the production shops. Patrushev was shown the matrices where ship shells are formed and was told about the methods used at the enterprise to increase productivity.

Earlier in the day Patrushev visited the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) in St. Petersburg. During the visit, he drew attention to the importance of improving the accuracy of forecasts of ice conditions in the Arctic for the safety of the Northern Sea Route.
