Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan finalized the description of disputed border sections during a meeting of the co-chairs of government delegations on delimitation and demarcation. The Kyrgyz government website reported on its results on December 4.

"The heads of the government delegations of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan reached an agreement and fully completed the description of the remaining sections of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border," - stated in the message.

According to the Kyrgyz side, the meeting in the city of Batken, Batken Oblast, Kyrgyz Republic, was held in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding. Working groups in the delegations of both countries were instructed to start drawing up final delimitation documents.

Earlier, on September 12, a checkpoint was opened on the border between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan for the first time in 14 years after a major inter-ethnic conflict. The Kyrgyz government at the time expressed the opinion that this would strengthen relations between the formerly conflicting nations.

The border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan is almost 1,000 kilometers long, which has periodically led to conflicts due to the unfinished delimitation process. In particular, in early May 2024, there was a shooting incident at one of the sections.
