New Year's vacation - 2025: when it starts and ends

During the New Year vacations, which traditionally fall at the end of the past year and the beginning of the new year, Russians will rest longer than on previous holidays. However, they will have to work hard before the weekend, as the pre-holiday week will be long. From what date of the New Year vacation for schoolchildren

For schoolchildren, January holidays usually coincide with the period of winter vacation. The schedule of vacations every year is approved by the Ministry of Education. However, it is advisory in nature, and schools can independently set vacation days in accordance with the curriculum.

The beginning and duration of the vacation also depend on the school's teaching system. Under the quarter system, children rest four times a year. Most often the dates of school vacations by quarters are the same as those recommended by the Ministry of Education. Thus, students will go on vacation from December 30.

Under the trimester system, which is typical for many schools in Moscow, the Moscow region and St. Petersburg, children study for five weeks and then have one vacation. In such educational institutions vacations will begin on December 29.

Until what number of New Year vacations in school

In schools where the modular-trimester system is adopted, the New Year vacations will last until January 8, 2025 (11 days). This day falls on Wednesday. Then schoolchildren will have two days of study, and on January 11 and 12 they will again have days off. The dates of the remaining trimester vacations are in February and April.

In educational institutions, in which it is accepted to study by quarters, New Year vacations will continue until January 12, that is four days longer than in the trimester system. Their duration will be exactly two weeks, i.e. 14 days.

In addition, additional days of rest are provided for first graders. But they will come after the New Year holidays - from February 17 to 24, 2025.

New Year's vacation - 2024/25 in the kindergarten: dates

In kindergartens, the school year is markedly different. Since these are preschool educational institutions, childcare is provided all year round, which means that there are no usual summer and winter vacations as such.

The exception is holidays, including New Year's Eve. For a garden with a five-day work week, vacation days are scheduled from December 29 through January 8.

However, some gardens may close earlier. Whether children will attend it on December 28 depends on the particular educational institution. This information is better to clarify directly in the institution.

How many days of winter vacation in college and university students

With colleges and universities, the situation is different. Institutions of vocational and higher education establish a schedule for each educational program. Therefore, the schedule may differ for different specialties and courses.

Students usually go on a full vacation after the winter session: in late January - early February. In different colleges and universities two or three weeks are allocated for vacation.

Sometimes vacations are divided into two parts. For example, a few days are added to the New Year's weekend, and the remaining days are given after the end of interim certification. Students can find out the schedule in their personal office, on the university website or in the educational and methodological department of the dean's office.

How we rest for the New Year - 2025 at work

For working citizens, the days of rest during the New Year holidays are determined in accordance with the production calendar, which is annually approved by the government.

According to the calendar, Russians before the New Year expect a long working week. In 2024, it will last six days - from December 23 to 28. But the New Year vacations themselves will be 11 days - one day more than last year: from December 29 to January 8 inclusive.

The first working day of 2025 falls on Thursday, January 9. But Russians will have to work only two days - then comes the weekend. Thus, a full-fledged working week will begin only on January 13.
