- Russian Foreign Ministry recommends that Russians in South Korea keep in touch with the Russian Embassy

The Russian Foreign Ministry recommends its compatriots to be in contact with the Russian Embassy in South Korea against the background of the events in South Korea. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian diplomatic department Maria Zakharova on December 4.
"We also recommend all Russian citizens, our compatriots who are in South Korea, to be in contact with our embassy," Zakharova said at a briefing.
In addition, she expressed hope that the situation in South Korea would not affect the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
"We are watching with alarm the tragic events that are unfolding in South Korea. <...> We expect that they (the events. - Ed.) will not affect the socio-political situation on the peninsula as a whole, which is already complicated by the provocative actions of the United States and its allies," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Embassy in South Korea reported that the situation in Seoul and other cities of the republic had returned to normal after the martial law was lifted in South Korea.
South Korean President Yun Seok-yol declared martial law in the country on December 3. He explained his decision by the threat of power paralysis, which appeared due to attempts to conduct an impeachment procedure. Commander of the emergency regime, Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces Park Ahn-soo noted that the activities of the parliament, political parties and associations are prohibited in the republic until martial law is lifted. Military vehicles were brought to the streets of Seoul, the nation's capital.
Later in the day, the South Korean government voted in favor of lifting martial law. Yun Seok-yol then canceled an emergency gathering of military personnel and sent those who had arrived for the draft back.
The opposition Party of the Republic, in turn, demanded that the president resign and announced its intention to charge Yun Seok-yol with treason. All heads and senior secretaries of the presidential administration then decided to leave their posts. In addition, the republic's labor unions announced a general strike.
On December 4, six opposition parties of South Korea presented in the parliament a draft on impeachment of the president. Voting on it may take place on December 6-7.
