Ukraine signs loan agreement with EU to provide €35 bln to Kiev


Ukraine has signed a memorandum of understanding and a loan agreement with the European Union to attract €35bn in aid to Kiev. This was reported on December 4 on the website of the Ministry of Finance of the country.
"The Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergey Marchenko signed a memorandum of understanding and credit agreement between Ukraine and the EU to attract up to €35 billion of macro-financial assistance," - stated in the message.
It is specified that the funds are part of the initiative of the G7 countries on the mechanism of additional loans to increase revenues to the Ukrainian budget.
Earlier, on December 2, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken reported on the allocation of a new $725m military aid package to Ukraine. He noted that the USA and more than 50 countries were "united" with Ukraine, which is why they were providing military aid.
On the same day, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said that the Ukrainian government needed more than $11bn in additional aid from the West to support the military-industrial complex (MIC).
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
