Russia's SVR says EU perceives Moldova as its vassal

The European Union (EU) sees Moldova as its vassal, and this feeling of the association is getting stronger and stronger. This was reported by the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) on December 4.
"According to information coming to the SVR, the EU is increasingly treating Moldova as its vassal. This is evidenced by the contacts of Euro-bureaucrats with the Moldovan leadership "without cameras"," the agency said in a statement.
It noted that, in particular, the EU ambassador to Moldova, Janis Mazeix, allows himself a "brazen style of behavior": he allowed himself to give the ruling Action and Solidarity party a detailed guide on how democracy in Chisinau should work before the parliamentary elections scheduled for 2025.
In particular, the SVR said, Mazeix demanded that the authorities of the republic find any pretext and sentence to criminal punishment the representatives of the Moldovan opposition - the leaders of the Victory bloc and the Renaissance and Chance parties - in order to nullify their political activity. In addition, the leadership in Chisinau, at the request of the EU ambassador, had to remove the head of Gagauzia, Eugenia Gutsul, from office and arrest members of her team.
The Russian agency also noted that Mazeix demanded that the republic's leadership create a new, pro-Western party "For European Moldova", which should be headed by former Foreign Minister Nicolae Popescu. The authorities should ensure that this political force enters the parliament, where it will form a coalition with the ruling party.
The SVR recalled that all attempts of the West to rudely interfere in the internal affairs of other countries constantly lead to destabilization and chaos. In Moldova, for example, this has already led to a very strong division of society into political camps.
"Thus, a time bomb was laid under the foundation of Moldovan statehood," the ministry summarized.
Earlier, on November 20, the chairman of the opposition bloc "Victory" Ilan Shor said that the goals of re-elected Moldovan President Maia Sandu are far from the interests of the citizens of the republic, and the head of state is turning the country into a colony of the West. In particular, Sandu is increasing defense spending, while social protection and health care have been deprived of funding, and large families and pensioners live below the poverty line.
On November 12, Shor said that Moldova is being prepared for "sawing" and will be divided into pieces. The head of the "Victory" bloc pointed out that after joining the EU, the republic would be seized by European corporations and they would "establish their serfdom".
Before that, on October 21, the leader of the opposition party "Chance" Alexei Lungu drew attention to the fact that Moldovans are tired of Maia Sandu's lies. Residents of the republic, in particular, see that the EU, integration with which the President proposes integration, is also in economic crisis.
On October 20, a referendum on the country's European integration was held in Moldova. Only 9 out of 36 districts of Moldova voted in favor of changing the constitution for the sake of joining the European Union (EU), while in Gagauzia more than 90% of those who voted were against European integration. At the same time, the Moldovan Central Election Commission reported that 50.39% of Moldovan citizens voted in favor of rapprochement with Europe following the results of the referendum. However, a number of politicians doubted the official results of the referendum.
