- The Belarusian Foreign Ministry said it would reconsider its approach to nuclear weapons

Russia and Belarus have changed their approaches to the use of nuclear weapons due to the emergence of new technologies in the field of armament. This was stated by deputy head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Igor Nazaruk on December 5.
"The decision to deploy [Russian] tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus is a fact," he told RIA Novosti.
According to Nazaruk, the level of mutual security between Russia and Belarus is growing. He noted that approaches to the use of nuclear weapons have been adjusted, "Gazeta.Ru" added .
Deputy Head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry also emphasized the fact that Moscow and Minsk are studying the possibility of using modern technologies in the field of weapons, which, of course, has affected the changes in the relevant strategies.
Earlier, September 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin said about the need to adapt the foundations of state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence to modern realities. At that time, he said that the Defense Ministry, the Foreign Ministry and the Security Council, after analysis, proposed a number of changes concerning a clearer fixation of the conditions for Russia's transition to the use of nuclear weapons.
Later, on November 11, Russia and Belarus finalized a treaty on security guarantees for the Union State (SU). The new Union State security concept, which will replace the document adopted back in 1999, will enshrine a provision on jointly countering the policies of the United States, unfriendly NATO states, and the European Union to achieve strategic goals of mutually beneficial and equal international cooperation.
