Arctic sea ice may completely melt in the summer of 2027. This was reported by the Daily Mail on December 4, citing scientists.

"A new study warns that the Arctic could be free of ice within three years, which is an 'ominous milestone' for the planet," the publication said.

Scientists generated a total of 300 possible outcomes, nine of which pointed to the complete melting of all Arctic ice as early as 2027, regardless of how people will act in the future, including changes in the amount of greenhouse gases.

Experts noted that this event will lead to strong changes in climate and weather conditions on the planet, but they calculated that it will not lead to significant changes in sea levels.

Scientists also specified that the Arctic ice cover is currently only 4.2 million square kilometers, while the average indicator in the period from 1979 to 1992 was 6.65 million square kilometers.

Earlier, on November 2, Russian scientists said that the area of ice covers around the world is gradually decreasing, and as a consequence, some ice islands may disappear. They specified that now there is an interglacial period and it is not clear what temperature will be the norm in the next hundred years: perhaps warming will continue, and perhaps the climate on Earth will again rush to the ice age.
