The Wasp SAM unit covered the positions of units from AFU reconnaissance drones

An air defense missile system (SAM) "Osa-AKM" of the "Center" group of troops has covered the positions of Russian servicemen's units from reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Krasnoarmeyskoye direction of the special military operation (SMO). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on December 4.
Russian servicemen detected an enemy UAV of airplane type, which was launched by the AFU militants to detect the positions of artillerymen, after which the calculation put the complex on alert and destroyed the target by launching missiles.
"The UAV was detected by detecting a moving marker on the all-round indicator, after which the range operator and the deputy chief of the calculation pointed the target tracking station by angle of place and range, then took it on escort. Then a report was made to the higher command, and then the decision to hit the target was made," said Lieutenant Vladislav Vinokurov, head of the Osa SAM system.
The main task of "Osa" SAM systems is to cover the areas where personnel and equipment of the "Center" group of troops are located. The surface-to-air missile system is capable of detecting UAVs of the AFU militants at a distance of more than 10 kilometers. This makes it possible to maintain full control over the airspace.
Earlier, on November 14, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that servicemen of the Osa-AKM SAM system of the Center group of forces eliminated a barrage munition of the US-made Switchblade of the AFU in the Krasnoarmeysk direction.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
