Namibia's vice president wins presidential election


The presidential election in Namibia was won by the country's vice-president and the candidate of the ruling SWAPO (South West African People's Organization of Namibia) party Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwa. The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation reported on December 3.
"Nandi-Ndaitwah polled 638,560 votes and received 57% of the popular vote," the publication quoted the results of the vote count as saying.
She became the first woman in Namibia's history to hold the presidency.
72-year-old Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah became the fifth elected president of Namibia, she will take the oath of office on March 21, 2025.
Earlier, on November 29, it became known that Namibia extended voting at the presidential and parliamentary elections for two days due to a shortage of ballots and problems with the organization. In this regard, 36 polling stations will continue to work on Friday and Saturday.
On February 4 , 82-year-old Namibian President Hage Geingob died. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences and noted Geingob's contribution to the development of friendly relations between the countries. The Russian leader recalled that he had the opportunity to personally meet with his colleague and noted that he will keep a bright memory of him.
On the same day, Namibia's acting President Nangolo Mbumba was sworn in as President of the African state. In addition, the country's new leader appointed Foreign Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwu as Vice President.
