More than 3 million children applied for humanitarian aid in 2024, UNICEF (UNICEF - United Nations Children's Fund) told Izvestia. The international organization stresses that due to rampant crime, more than 365,000 children were forced to leave their homes, for this reason about 300,000 of them could not continue their education.

"Almost half of the population is facing acute food insecurity and rising levels of malnutrition. Nearly one in four children in Haiti suffers from chronic malnutrition, and the resurgence of diseases such as cholera is exacerbating their vulnerability," UNICEF reports.

The country has been leaderless since Haitian President Jovenel Moise was assassinated in 2021. In late February this year, several thousand inmates escaped from a local prison; gangs now control 80% of the capital and some other regions of the country.
