Electricity debts in Russia have increased by 7% since the beginning of 2024

Russian consumers' indebtedness for electricity amounted to RUB 344.9 billion as of October 1, 2024. Since the beginning of the year, it has grown by 23.1 billion rubles, i.e. by 7%.
Moreover, the size of debts for which the payment deadlines passed a month ago and earlier amounted to 219 billion rubles, which is plus 19.3 billion (10%) by the end of 2023. This is stated in the documents of the Ministry of Construction to the meeting with the head of the Cabinet of Ministers Mikhail Mishustin, which was held at the end of November.
Most violators live in the Central Federal District - the district accounted for Br75.1 billion (this is 21.8% of the total debt), of which delinquency over one month - Br44.5 billion. In the Volga District these figures are equal to Br60.7 and Br35.2 billion, respectively.
The documents of the Ministry of Construction also specify that among electricity consumers, the bulk of the debt - 142.5 billion rubles (41.3%) - falls on citizens, municipal organizations (e.g., schools and kindergartens) and enterprises.
Despite the arrears, the electricity system is actually fully prepared for the heating season, according to the Ministry of Construction. With reference to the Ministry of Energy, the agency specified that 97% of power industry entities have received passports of readiness to work in the heating season. These are the companies of generation, power grids and operational dispatch management, which are functioning properly.
