It is important that there are more opportunities for diplomacy in the region and for this purpose the Syrian regime should be involved in the process of political settlement, the Turkish leader said.
Erdogan also emphasized that in the context of the latest developments in Syria, the most important aspect is such that civilians are not harmed.
"Turkey has made every effort to ensure calm in Syria," his words were relayed by the administration.
The Kremlin's official Telegram channel said Putin, for his part, emphasized the need to "stop the terrorist aggression against the Syrian state by radical groups and provide full support to the efforts of the legitimate authorities to restore stability and constitutional order throughout the country."
The leaders also discussed issues of further development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and Turkey with a focus on trade, economic and energy components, the Kremlin said.
