Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova asked on December 3 whether the West would impose sanctions against South Korea.

Zakharova drew attention to media reports that the entrance to South Korea's parliament building was blocked after martial law was declared in the country.

"What have Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia decided on this issue? Will sanctions be imposed on Seoul? Or will South Korea be luckier than Georgia?" - reads the message of the diplomat in Telegram-channel.

In turn, the United States reported that the administration of American leader Joe Biden is in contact with the government of South Korea, writes Reuters.

On the introduction of martial law, South Korean President Yun Seok-yol announced earlier in the day. The reason was given as a threat of paralysis of power due to attempts to conduct impeachment proceedings. Later it became known that the activities of Parliament, political parties and associations in South Korea were suspended until martial law was lifted.

As reported by eyewitnesses in social networks, against the background of these events, protesters in Seoul gather near the building of the National Assembly. Security forces are blocking the parliament after the opposition leader promised to defy the martial law order.
