The popularity of dietary supplements is gaining momentum, and it's fueled by marketing influence. But in fact, their benefits are not so clear-cut. Lidia Belova, a dermatologist-trichologist, nutriciologist, cosmetologist, member of the Moscow Society of Dermatovenerologists and Cosmetologists, stated this in a conversation with Izvestia on December 8.

"The reasons why hair falls out are quite a lot. And they are far from always tied to deficiencies and dietary supplements. Most of the components that a person expects to get from the composition of additives, can be much easier, faster and cheaper to get from food," she said.

For example, said the doctor, biotin, which is already firmly associated with hair growth. But biotin deficiency is a very rare phenomenon, which is usually associated with some nutritional genetic diseases, that is, it is an inborn problem with biotin, hair loss and brittleness. So, this means that not absolutely everyone who has breakage and hair loss needs to supplement biotin. At the same time, an excess of biotin can negatively affect the level of zinc and other valuable components in the body, emphasized the interlocutor of the publication.

"Instead of sorting out and finding the cause of hair loss, a person directs all his attention, for example, to biotin, which in his situation is not the culprit of the problem, and misses the important: what factor affects the mechanisms of hair loss in his particular case," she said.

Among other things, silicon is important for the growth of the hair shaft - it is the "building material". B vitamins, in turn, accelerate the hair cycle, so instead of rapid growth will be renewal with abundant loss at the initial stage. Against this background with the intake of such vitamins should be more careful, advised the specialist.

"Fallout - this is already a consequence of any problem inside the sebaceous-hair follicle. Our task is to strengthen the follicle and provide the rod with the necessary components. Therefore, if you purchase dietary supplements with the sole purpose of stopping hair loss, then almost all of them are a waste of money," Belova concluded.

Earlier, on November 26, doctor-trichologist Belova also told "Izvestia" about the prevention of hair loss after childbirth. She explained that abundant postpartum hair loss is explained by the different amount of initial resources of the body - first of all during pregnancy they go for the benefit of the fetus, and the mother already on the residual principle. Therefore, it is necessary to emphasize that the useful substances are enough for both mother and child.
