The expert called any Christmas trees unecological

No type of Christmas trees can be considered an environmentally friendly decoration for the New Year, said Askhat Kayumov, chairman of the council of the ecological center "Dront", ecologist, on December 3.
"The most non-ecological [of all types of Christmas trees] is artificial. <...> The main disadvantage of artificial Christmas trees is that they are plastic," he told Gazeta.Ru.
As the expert explained, an artificial Christmas tree cannot be utilized naturally, because there are no organisms in nature capable of processing it.
According to Kayumov's estimation, a bouquet of spruce branches obtained during legal timber harvesting will harm nature the least. In the second place in terms of environmental friendliness he placed natural fir trees from special plantations or cut down in the forest area by forestry specialists.
Earlier, on November 28, analysts named the cost of Christmas trees in 2024. According to their calculations, the average prices for live trees range from 1,500 rubles to 38,615 rubles. The average cost of a two-meter coniferous tree is Br3,500, while an artificial one and a half meter Christmas tree will cost Br14-16 thousand.
