The Georgian Foreign Ministry has summoned the Lithuanian and Estonian ambassadors to Georgia, as well as the chargé d'affaires of the Latvian embassy. The ministry's website said on December 3.

"The ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Lithuania and Estonia to Georgia <...>, as well as the Charge d'Affaires of the Latvian Embassy have been summoned," the ministry said.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry expressed hope that the sides will return to friendly relations and their further cooperation will be based on mutual respect.

On November 28, the ruling Georgian Dream party decided to suspend discussions with the European Union (EU) on starting negotiations on joining the union until 2028. On the same day, a wave of protests erupted in the country, and they have continued for the fourth day. On November 30, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported that protesters attempted to set fire to the parliament building, 48 rooms were damaged.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said on December 2 that Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania had agreed to impose sanctions against those involved in the suppression of protests in Georgia. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, commenting on this, said that Moscow views negatively any attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign states.

He added that the move by the Baltic republics demonstrates the Western atmosphere of intolerance towards the countries' aspirations to pursue an independent policy.
