The cat Mir, which was presented to the governor of the Japanese prefecture of Akita Norihisu Satake by Russian President Vladimir Putin, died in Japan. This was reported on December 3 by the newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun.

The pet was 12 years old, and recently he suffered from an illness, specified the edition.

Journalists recalled that after the Japanese earthquake in 2011, the governor thanked Putin for Russia's help, sending him a dog Yume Akita-inu breed.

As a return gift, the Russian president gave him a Siberian cat in 2013, which lived at Satake's house along with other cats.

In August, it was reported that the UK had developed a plan for the death of Larry, a 17-year-old cat living at the residence of the UK Prime Minister. According to The Times, officials drafted press releases in advance and selected photos to illustrate relevant news stories.
