Ukraine may have requested THHAD and Arrow missile defense systems from Western countries against the Russian medium-range Oreshnik missile. This was reported by the France24 TV channel on December 3.

It is noted that the Ukrainian side last week in Brussels called on Western allies to provide it with systems that can allegedly shoot down the Russian Oreshnik missile.

"These include the US high altitude missile defense system THAAD and the Arrow system developed by Israel and the US," the TV channel reported, citing official sources.

Earlier, on November 27, retired U.S. Army Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson told Izvestia that U.S. ATACMS and British Storm Shadow missiles are like "children's toys" compared to the capabilities of Russia's Oreshnik ballistic missile. If necessary, he said, the Russian army could completely destroy NATO infrastructure in Europe.

On November 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Ukraine had used Western long-range weapons against the Russian state, causing the regional conflict to acquire elements of a global conflict. He also said that one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems, the Oreshnik missile, had been tested under combat conditions.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which began on February 24, 2022. The decision to conduct it was taken by the Russian president because of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to the increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
