Damage to fiber optic cables between Sweden and Finland occurred during construction work. This was reported on December 3 by the transport and communications authority Traficom.

"Both cables appear to have been severed during the construction work, so it was a normal situation. The repair work has been completed," the statement said.

The company clarified that the damage could have been due to service interruptions, nevertheless it did not cause significant disruption to communications.

Earlier in the day, Swedish tabloid newspaper Aftonbladet, citing sources, reported that there was a new break in the telecommunications cable between Sweden and Finland.

On Nov. 18, the C-Lion1 telecommunications cable running under the Baltic Sea between Finland and Germany was severed. Cinia, a fiber optic network construction company, informed the media that the cable had been cut. It was clarified that customers have been informed, repairs have begun and will take up to 15 days. The German and Finnish Foreign Ministries said in a joint statement that they were investigating the incident.
