China will continue cooperation with countries within the BRICS framework, despite the threats of US President-elect Donald Trump. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on December 3.

"China is willing to continue working with BRICS partners to deepen pragmatic cooperation in all fields and make greater contributions to the sustainable and stable growth of the global economy," China Daily quoted him as saying.

Lin Jian emphasized that BRICS is not a confrontation-oriented bloc. He also drew attention to the fact that the interaction between its members is not directed against third countries.

Earlier, on November 30, Trump said that if the BRICS countries decide to create their own new currency, Washington will impose a duty of 100% on goods from the member states of this association. According to him, any state that intends to try to create a replacement for the dollar in the world economy will no longer be able to interact with the United States in this area.

Before that, on November 17, Bundestag deputy Rainer Rothfuss told Izvestia that BRICS could become an alternative to the European Union (EU) for Germany. The politician also spoke about the need to create a BRICS currency. The dollar will still play an important role in the international financial system, but the BRICS currency will also be in great demand, Rothfuss pointed out.

On November 6, Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration Maxim Oreshkin noted that the BRICS states will actively use national currencies in settlements.

BRICS is an interstate association of countries. The last summit at the level of heads of its member states was held in Kazan in October 2024.
